BACnet Comes Home to Roost
Room Number: 108
Presenter(s): Steve Tom, P.E., PhD, Director of Technical Information, Automated Logic Corp.
Nine years after the ASHRAE board of directors approved the BACnet standard, BACnet provided the primary control and systems integration for the newly renovated ASHRAE Headquarters building, which was designed to showcase dedicated outdoor air systems, variable air flow systems, variable refrigerant flow systems, heat pumps, indoor air monitoring, lighting, photovoltaics, and more -- all using multiple vendors and multiple systems integrated into a single BACnet front end. This presentation will provide a high-level overview of the innovative system, showing how different media (BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, BACnet over ARCNET, Web Services) were used to communicate BACnet data between systems and provide a single user interface.
Learning Objective:
1. Understand how BACnet provides a common structure for integrating data from multiple systems
2. Understand how different vendors’ equipment using different BACnet media can be integrated into a unified system
3. Understand how gateways can be used to integrate equipment using other protocols
