Using BACnet Data for Continuous Commissioning and Performance Enhancement

Room Number: 108

Presenter(s): Mike Olson, Manager, HVAC Applications, ABB, Inc.

This session provides real world examples of how to use real-time data provided by BACnet communication with VFDs to enhance energy savings in HVAC systems. Load shedding, chilled water loop reset and other control algorithm examples will be presented.

In addition, the session will identify ways in which users and integrators are using information available from the BACnet communications link to automatically implement predictive and preventative maintenance strategies that improve system operation and prevent breakdowns. Examples of how to use available data for continuous mechanical systems commissioning helps to reduce the number and complexity of installed components will be included, as will a demonstration of BACnet VFD communications capabilities.

Learning Objective:

  1. Learn how open systems technology can be used to implement enhanced energy savings strategies.
  2. Understand where VFD technology stands currently and where the trends are moving.
  3. Learn how VFD data can be used to schedule preventative maintenance and reduce installed component cost and count.
