The outbreak of swine flu - or H1N1- earlier this year reminded facility managers epidemics and pandemics not only pose serious threats to human health. They also can threaten the ongoing effective and efficient operation of all types of institutional and commercial facilities. The likely return of H1N1 this flu season - perhaps in the form of a more virulent strain compared to the current outbreak - poses a double-barreled threat for facility managers: Occupant health certainly will continue to be a pressing concern, but facility professionals also will be well-advised to revisit their existing organizational emergency preparedness plans to make sure they contain contingencies for a pandemic.
This panel discussion, featuring facilities managers, consultants and government officials with experience responding to H1N1, will offer attendees information on preparing facilities for H1N1's return, improving facility hygiene to prevent its spread, and making plans to handle the worst-case scenario that threatens to paralyze an organization.
Learning Objective:
1. Learn how to prepare your facility for H1N1's return
2. Apply appropriate facility hygiene practices to prevent the spread of H1N1
3. Develop and update emergency response plans throughout your facility
