An Operational Approach to Sustainability

From retailers to universities to governments to private industry and more; sustainability is an issue whose time has come. This presentation is designed to provide facility managers with a basic understanding of sustainability and more importantly, to begin the process of identifying the indicators that they may want to track for their building, the metrics by which those indicators need to be measured, identifying who "owns" the information and who will "use" the information, and finally how to be begin the journey to measure, track and report on sustainability efforts that truly can save money and transform the organization.

Learning Objective:

1. Understand why sustainability is emerging as an important issue to many customer segments

2. Determine what needs to be measured as well as the metrics by which each indicator will be measured

3. Know how to sort data by functional responsibilities (i.e. sales, operations, HR, etc.)

4. Develop a strategy to prioritize potential initiatives based on both internal and customer driven needs and opportunities
